MINUTES OF RICH1 HPD & MECHANICS MEETING

Monday 9th July 2007
Present Bill Cameron, Dave Clark, Richard Plackett, Trevor Savidge.

Dave Websdale not contacted due to communication breakdown.

HPD Chariot and Rail System

TS will provide workshop with 2 drawings for the 2 pairs of roller blocks. The drawing for the first pair will be available this afternoon, the second pair tomorrow.
There isn't an accurate estimation of the length of time it will take to make the blocks on the C+C machine, but DC assumes it will take at most two days each.
This time scale is consistent with being ready to start shipping the Chariot to CERN with the installation rails at the end of next week (20th July).
NAB have found a problem with the rail system and will now deliver to oxford at the end of this week (by 13th).
It is planned that Rail system and Chariot frame will be shipped (possibly along with he spare HPD columns) beginning in the week starting 23rd July.
It is planned that the test installation into the RICH box will take place in the first week in August - this is fixed by TT work.
The IC workshop is having difficulty sourcing the High tensile steel for the lifting plates (EN8 high tensile steel). For the tests aluminium would probably be fine as there will be no HPDs in place.
More minitek angle pieces need to be ordered ~5 or 6 to complete chariot.
We would prefer the chariot to be sipped complete to protect the threads and surfaces from repeated re assembly.

Patch Panels and Column Integration

TS will begin to work on patch panel drawings when roller blocks and PF template is finished.
The data end panels have not changed since previous discussions, but updates to the single large panel have been made. RP will provide TS with information on this (STILL).
The hood frame and end plate material has been ordered.
The skin material will be thin aluminium but hasn't been ordered yet as TS hasn't begun the detailed hood design yet.
The large panel design is somewhat coupled to the choice of Light Tightness Monitoring technology which hasn't been made yet.
14 columns have been populated with HPDs and electronics, 8 have cooling plates mounted.
A possible solution to the cable cassets would be to just have two plates and a constraint on the distance the patch panel can be extracted.
RP reports that having any sort of central reel constricts the space too much and would probably lead to the cables becoming jammed.
Having (one of) the plates transparent would help because it would allow the position of the cables to be seen when the columns were being installed.

Cooling

We have to change the manifold design in light of RICH2 decision to drop the fast connectors.
Photographs of the RICH2 solution would help TS with this process.

Upcoming Schedule

The spherical mirrors will be installed in the last week in July (23rd onwards) with the flat mirrors installed after them.
The Chariot test will happen the week after in the first week of August.
There is the possibility of a magnet test in September for which the iron doors will have to be put on.
If this magnet test occurs then we will perform a leak test to check the diaphragm is ok.
