MINUTES OF RICH1 HPD & MECHANICS MEETING

Monday 16th July 2007
Present Bill Cameron, Dave Clark, Richard Plackett & Trevor Savidge.

HPD Chariot

We plan to take the assembled HPD chariot to Oxford for packaging and shipping next Monday (23rd July).
This is later than we had hoped as there are still a number of outstanding parts:
The lifting eyes and plates are at IC but need to be machined and assembled.
The roller blocks will take most of this week to machine, if not longer.
The protection plate material has not yet arrived, and aluminum angle pieces will be used to clamp and reinforce it. (See later)

The upper rail system should be delivered from NAB to Oxford today.

TS will begin adding detail to the hood concept this week, after providing Brian with positions for the lower rails on the magnetic shielding.
The material for the hood frame and the hood end plates has been ordered, the 2mm black anodised Al for the thin plates will be ordered soon.
RP will meet with TS this afternoon to discuss the patch panels.

Protection Plate

The 5mm nylon sheet for the protection plate has not yet arrived.
Additionally there is some concern as to the suitability of the current clips to restrain it in chandelling situations during the trial insertion.
To further protect the sealing surfaces it is possible to remove the plinth pieces and replace them with 'feet' made of angle aluminium that also retains the nylon plate.
If the nylon plate looks like it will delay shipping beyond Monday we should use a hardboard plate instead as a lot of the protection will be provided by the metal feet.
It is possible for BC to take the plinth parts out to CERN to be installed when the chariot is mounted on the rails for testing the mechanical clearance.
