This is a waiting list for the HEP Group Windows Server for accelerator users,
heppc237: full information on the server can be found at the
bottom of the page.
When you wish to use the server, please add your user details to the top of the
list by editing the "heppc237.html" file and adding a new line to the table,
including a quick note on what you will be using the server for.
When you first log in, enter the log-in date and time on the list;
once you're finished, please enter the log out date and time and, if there's anybody
above you in the list, please email them to let them know that the system is free.
In order to prevent the system being over-subscribed, please restrict usage to
24 hours in any 48 hour period if there are people waiting above you in the list.

To connect to the server, use your standard HEP Windows username and password and connect via
Remote Desktop; the server address is:
heppc237.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk
This machine has 8 cores at 2.5GHz and 16GB of RAM and runs 64-bit Windows, so is intended for
extremely processor intensive tasks that have to be run under Windows.
At the moment Matlab, CST, GPT and Arash's Multi-Physics software are installed: for those wishing
to use Matlab, if you copy any scripts you have into 'My Documents\Matlab' on your local machine,
these will get copied over with your profile when you log on to heppc237.
If anyone wants any extra software installed, please let me know.
The 500GB drive is currently split into 2 partitions: the C drive is about 90GB and contains all
the system software, and the D drive makes up the rest. There are actually 2 internal drives,
mirrored in a RAID 1 configuration, so all the data on the machine is backed up. However, if you
delete anything it cannot be recovered since it will also be deleted immediately from the mirrored drive.
If you need to store data on the D drive, please create a directory with your initials into which all
your data will be stored: this means that data remains self-contained and I can set up the sharing
permissions so that only you can read and write to your own directory over the network. Once you have
created this directory, please let me know, along with your Windows username, and I will set up the
permissions accordingly.
To access these shared folders over the network, under Windows type '\\heppc237.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk' into
the 'run' box on the start menu, or the address bar in Windows Explorer, enter your Windows username
and password and select the shared drive you want; under Mac OS X, choose 'Connect To Server' from the
'Go' menu in the Finder and enter 'smb://heppc237.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk/', along with the same credentials.
So long as you are within the IC domain, you should then be able to read and write to your shared drive.
