TeV Cosmic Gamma Ray Physics with Milagro and HAWC

by Prof Jordan Goodman (University of Maryland)

The Milagro Gamma-Ray Observatory is the world's first large-area water Cherenkov detector capable of continuously monitoring the overhead sky for sources of TeV gamma rays. Milagro has made a host of discoveries including the detection of several new gamma-ray sources, detection of diffuse emission from the Galactic plane and an unusual anisotropy of cosmic rays on the sky. In this talk results from Milagro will be discussed as well as the design of the next generation detector called HAWC.
