Colliders, past, present and where next?

by Dr Lyn Evans
(CERN/IC)

The story of the Standard Model is the story of colliders. All of the particles of the Standard Model apart from the lightest have been discovered with these machines. A historical account of their evolution from the first “pathfinders” to the LHC is given and a few little-known features of the LHC are discussed. Some future options after the LHC and its upgrade are discussed.
