The LHCb trigger and data acquisition system in Run 3

Abstract: The high data rates produced at CERN require efficient filtering algorithms that run in real-time. This is especially true in the LHCb experiment, where the 40 Tbps of data rate is filtered solely in software. The Data Acquisition System and Trigger of LHCb will be discussed, with an emphasis put on the first stage of triggering HLT1. The entirety of HLT1 has been rewritten for Run 3 to run in parallel on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which has led to an increased processing capability that ultimately allows better quality filtering. In this presentation Daniel Cámpora will discuss the design of the LHCb trigger and data acquisition system, focusing on the framework and algorithms in HLT1.
