Why don't we never get anything like this at GridPP meetings ?20 years after joining the Babar collaboration[*] as an undergraduate I finally make it to SLAC for the first time.
*Here's the abstract of my masters thesis (Diplomarbeit).
I tried to find an official copy of it, but apparently the internet does forget. And it wasn't even that bad, as these things go.
Simon and me visit the Intel museum. Because this is what system managers do for fun. Simon recognises every single chip in the museum on sight. It's awesome.Art work in the SLAC Cafeteria Building. That's one way to avoid recycling fees. After the review. When looking at this picture I immediately regret that I did not get around to buying a new, review compatible, dress for the occasion as I had planned. Bah. Alfredo caught a Pokemon in the auditorium. For no apparent reason there's a tank in the park close to the hotel. The San Mateo county museum on Redwood City has an original one armed bandit. Which is probably only interesting to people who really liked Lucky Luke and the One-armed Bandit as a kid.Apparently the flags are all that is left of Babar.Oh, and this. At least so the students claim, but then students claim lots of things. At the end of the workshop Simon and me go for dinner. About half the bill is in alcohol. Sounds about right. On the morning before Simon flies home we do a quick tourist run into San Francisco. If you look closely at the previous picture, Simon actually smiles :-P. Won't happen again.I was there, too. Doing slightly better in the system manager smile (aka "toothy frown") department.
And desparately working on my sun burn.
