WP1
The “Beam Line” has particular significance in COMET
- world’s first configuration of its sort to be built
- intense, pulsed proton beam; superconducting capture solenoid; curved charge-selecting solenioids
- challenges for accelerator physics and engineering
The UK is specifically suited to contributing to this area
- active accelerator community, well represented in COMET-UK
- engaged in muon accelerator physics (e.g., PASI, FFAGs)
- world-leading STFC engineering (targetry and cryogenic magnets)
- already active at J-PARC through T2K
Beam Line work needs close coordination with KEK / J-PARC
- facility infrastructure / solenoid physicists / host-nation industry
-
These are brought together in WP1
- Accelerator physics (led by Rob Appleby)
- RAL engineering (led by Chris Densham)
