Agenda and Notes for the 30th June 2009 Software Meeting

Location

The Blackett Lab Room 532.
See here for a map of the campus. The Blackett Lab is building 6. Room 532 is on the 5th floor.
The meeting will start at 10:00 BST (18:00 JST).

Agenda

  • Documentation of comet_g4.
  • Possibility of integrating elements of G4beamline in comet_g4.
  • Joint Mu2E-COMET simulation framework.
  • Development of Analysis Tools.
  • Status report from the UK.
  • AOB.

Notes

  • The UK group is looking at documenting Aoki-san's Geant4-based simulation (which we call comet_g4). So far we have generated a Doxygen page and are in the process of writing a summary of the functionality and code layout. The aim is to complete this before NuFact09. The documentation will be circulated when it's ready.
  • Plans for including some of the functionality of G4beamline into comet_g4 was discussed. It was agreed that this is a good idea and that this should lead to an integrated simulation of the whole experiment starting from the particles produced by the initial proton pulse. The minimum requirment for this is to read in 3D-field maps. This functionality may already exist and needs to be investigated. We also need to check that overlapping field maps are summed. Implementation of time-varying 3D electro-magnetic fields would be desirable. We may need to talk to Tom Roberts to see if it's possible to use G4beamline elements directly in comet_g4 without rewriting code.
  • It was also noted that in developing the code the event weight needs to be kept.
  • Development of a common set of ROOT-based analysis tools was discussed. Existing analysis code needs to be reviewed first.
  • Some of the code development work may overlap with the work being done by the Fermilab computing division for the Mu2E project. A CMS-based grid framework has been developed for Mu2E. Aligning the comet_g4 simulation with this may (or may not) be a good idea. Discussions with the Fermilab people will take place after NuFact09. We will then be able to see if it is worth developing a joint framework.
  • It was decided that we need a CVS repository and mailing list for the software. This will be based in Japan. Regular software and analysis meetings will be set up after NuFact09.
